About Me

Hi, I’m Rock. Allow me to introduce myself...

I’m a UX Research Lead who greatly enjoys building bridges to help others build better products.

Connecting product teams to users: With 10 years of experience in the enterprise software space, I actively create opportunities for product decision-makers to hear directly from large and small businesses to improve, and increase confidence in, our product strategy and design. Working closely with busy product teams who are often disconnected from end-users (e.g., IT administrators, business owners, frontline workers), I carefully craft a research experience and curate qualitative and quantitative user insights so they can easily consume and act on relevant insights in their work. I invite interested stakeholders to be an extension of the research team to shape research plans, interact with research participants, and identify actionable insights for the larger product team.

Engineering better bridges: I continually work on improving processes and systems in my research practices. I utilize my training at one of Canada’s best HCI graduate programs to maximize the rigor for each research initiative. Experienced with building research practices from the ground up, I actively collaborate with UX colleagues and team leads across the organization to apply UX best practices (e.g., regularly checking in with customers, considering user insights earlier in planning stages) to increase the effectiveness of our product development processes. Leveraging my engineering background, I iteratively develop repeatable and impactful research practices, as well as operationalize common tasks.

Building bridges for others’ growth: Having adopted a growth mindset, I actively coach the UX researchers I manage, mentoring them to grow professionally and increase their impact. I have been actively involved in running various professional development programs including Toastmasters, an industry mentoring program at UBC, and Vancouver’s oldest UX meetup. In 2016, I also co-founded and helped organize an annual UX research conference to connect and educate local UX researchers, designers, product managers, and students.
